Credit Crunch
I was totally resolved not to let this whole financial crisis get in the way of my trip. I had planned it for almost two years, and it had taken me that long to save up the money to travel the way I wanted to. My tickets were booked and my itinerary was mapped. I was going to start in Paris, my first touch-down across the ocean, and then go through the French countryside, Italy, and a little flight over to the UK. I had no compunction about spending that kind of money; I don’t have a mortgage, I have less that two thousand in credit card debt, and I have one cash advance loan with not much left to pay off. I also had a debt consolidation loan that I paid off ages ago, so that’s not an issue.
I just wanted this to be the travel adventure I never had, unsullied by anything and anyone. It turns out it’s not that easy-the whole world is worried about this financial crisis. I can’t get away from it. People are jacking up prices and the exchange rates are going crazy (apparently it’s a good time to be an American in the UK; in a historically comparative way, at least). The downside to the “local world” is it’s pretty hard to get away.
