What is a Sleep Disorder
Sleeping disorders are often hidden and undetected because they are often difficult to diagnose. Since you never see the doctor while you are sleeping and you don’t watch yourself sleep, diagnosing a sleep disorder is often found after many other conditions are considered and ruled out.
What are the signs of a sleep disorder?
- Feeling excessively tired or fatigued during waking hours
- Waking up as tired as when you went to sleep
- Experiencing memory loss or forgetfulness
- Snoring loudly – you might need help determining this
- Waking up with heartburn or headaches
- Difficulty concentrating, even with small, simple tasks
- Falling asleep during inappropriate times, like in business meetings or talking to friends
If you experience some or all of the above symptoms, consult your doctor for discussion and diagnosis.
Sleep disorders are often a result of a sleep apnea. Treatment for this condition is fairly simple although some may feel it is uncomfortable or difficult to get used to. CPAP equipment is prescribed to treat breathing interruptions or stoppages by delivering a constant positive airflow of pressure through CPAP masks. A variety of CPAP supplies are available and a patient can find a machine that meets his or her individual needs. Treatment for a sleeping disorder is not invasive but will bring results with constant use.
