Decorating a Guest Bedroom
If you’re lucky enough to have an extra room in your house that you can share with guests that come to visit you then you may be wondering how to decorate this room. You want to make sure that your guests are comfortable but you don’t want to spend a lot of money decorating a room that’s mostly unlived-in. You also want to make sure that it’s set up in such a way so as to accommodate all of the different types of guests that you may have staying with you throughout the year.
The first thing to consider is what kind of bed or beds to put in the room. Many people find that they have both adults and children staying with them at different times and they aren’t sure how to accommodate them both. The best bet here is to look at twin bed sets; the two beds can be pushed together to create one bed for adults but can be separated to remain comfortable for kids. The rest of the furniture in the room should have similar convenience – dressers should be large but short enough for kids to access and so on. Make the room versatile with the right furniture and the decor itself will matter less than you think.

My first thougt when I read your post was of the guest bedrooms I have been in and how most reminded me of a Motel 6. For me, a personal touch would have made me feel much more welcome. How about a few pictures of things we had done together, you knew I was coming.
I have stayed in some ugly guest bedrooms for sure. Something about twin beds seems to just puzzle the decorators in us, doesn’t it? I personally prefer one full or queen size, but like the idea that twins can be pushed together too.
You never stayed at my cousin Larry’s, I can tell. He pushes the twin beds together and by midnight I am on the floor buried between two beds. Me, I’ll spend the extra money and do it right. My guests deserve that much.
My guest bedroom is really kind of an afterthought. It’s half a bedroom and half storage. These are some good, quick and easy ideas to get that room under control. With twin bed, I can still tuck boxes underneath!
I always read in my home decor magazines how guest bedrooms should feel like a resort within a home. Soft lighting, nice furniture, tastefully decorated. Doesn’t that sound nice? Mine is all done in a walnut that feels rich but not too dark.
