Painful Renovations
I’ve been getting some major renovations done on my house and property for the last few months, and I’ve never been looking forward to anything more than the end of the ordeal. Even though it’s been going well by construction and landscaping standards, the hassles have simply been endless.
I had to jump through hoops at first with my HOA to get approval for the project, and there is nothing in the world I hate more than my HOA-I swear all they are interested in is making my life miserable. I got the permit in the mail and started right away and even had the contractor working weekends to get it done faster. They started on my house first, and I realized it was a terrible idea because they made a ton of noise. I knew that on Saturday when they started bringing in heavy equipment for the backyard, like the EZ Screen portable screener I’d rented on their advice, it would get messy with the neighbors.
I couldn’t blame them because I work from home some days, and I was going crazy after two days of being awoken two hours early at seven in the morning by jackhammers, so if I only had two days to sleep in and had to wake up even fifteen minutes early to the sound of construction, I’d be upset too. Anyway, I tried to change the schedule with the contractor, but he said he had to work this weekend because he’d already hired guys and promised them the hours.
That weekend, about eight people from the neighborhood either stopped by or called to complain to me, and on Monday, I had a nice letter and accompanying $50 fine from my HOA.
