Sorting Through Stuff After a Divorce
Going through a divorce isn’t something that is uncommon but it’s something that is extremely difficult. The strange thing about it is that you often find yourself caught off guard by the smallest of things rather than the large things about the divorce. It isn’t the battles in court that cause you endless tears but instead the moment of silence when you ask your spouse to pass the salt and realize that you are at the table alone.
One of the toughest parts of the experience is trying to sort through the material things that you have. The big things are easy enough but the little things will get you. And it’s not even the stuff that you’re battling over that can be the toughest to sort through.
For example, you may find yourself looking through a box of old junk when you come across your wedding announcements. You remember how you debated for weeks about whether to get contemporary wedding invitations or to go with beach wedding invitations. And you suddenly find yourself in a flood of tears. The only thing to do is put the stuff away until you’re in a better place emotionally to cope with deciding what to do about it.
