Manny Being Manny?

Baseball PlayersI’m sure by now everyone’s heard about Manny taking banned substances in Major League Baseball.  They’re making a mountain out of a molehill in my opinion, especially because drugs like HGH are actually (shocker!) around for a very good reason; they can help speed and repair recovery from injuries and other helpful purposes.  Major League players have absolutely no recourse to take advantage of these drugs and yet get seriously damaging injuries.  It doesn’t make sense to me.  And now they’re saying that, despite the fact that he cleared drug tests for years prior, this somehow taints Boston’s curse-ending World Series win in ‘04 and the repeat in ‘07?

How do you figure?  I realize that in the past year or so there has been a lot of disillusionment in baseball with the Mitchell Report, etc, but personally I think that it’s blown wildly out of proportion.  Manny said his doctor prescribed it, I believe him, and I think that the MLB should offer some sort of temporary leave to take advantage of necessary treatments without penalizing a whole career.  I feel like this just makes, say, a high school student who is taking HGH supplements and doesn’t fully understand this is a legal and beneficial drug feel unnecessarily bad.
